it’s a damn shame…

Yesterday I went to the open skate at the Windy City Rollers practice space and it was pretty awesome. I fell in love with the practice space (random bras hanging up everywhere?) and felt crazy intimidated when I realized that I was early enough to catch a Second Wind (our B Team) practice (which was intense as hell!)

After some waiver signings and quick introductions Rose Feratu began the practice. And it was quite amazing!

I learned how to crossover (TAKE IT BITCH), do a T Stop and another stop (forget what it was called, but it was when you push your toes together), line jumps and a few other techniques.

I was sweaty and disgusting but I felt really good. AND my asthma didn’t even start acting up until the end of the our two hour work out. So yeah!!!!

Also leaving that practice space made me realize something. I want to do this. I want to be able to practice there each week. I want to be able to perform awesome tricks like Bellatrix and Tamikaze.

I want new Derby approved skates and I want to try out this July.

So here I am, editing my resume and applying to jobs nonstop. Not because I need one, not because I finally realized that rent is going to be due soon, but because I want to become a Windy City Roller.

Haha, at least I found motivation to stop being a bum at home?

Oh! And I managed to run into a padded wall and fall on my ass. I call that a good day!

day 7. Traveling.

I haven’t had enough time to really keep up with this; I blame end of classes. ): But it’s a slow day at work so I shall do it here!

Last Saturday it was a high of 67 so I jumped out of bed (not really jumped…more like dragged myself out) and went out for a nice skate on the path. I was in awe by how awesome the weather was (cuz you know…it’s been raining and snowing) so I really enjoyed the skate.

I skated around a lot of different side streets until I made my way to Montrose Ave which probably doesn’t mean anytrhing to most of you. I’d say it was about 1.5-2 mile skate? Probably two miles given all the random side streets I took.

I grabbed a donut from Dunkin Donuts and this lady with three kids stared at me in awe.

“Oh boy, I haven’t seen roller skates in such a long time??? Where did you get those??”

I told her to hit up Sports Authority and tried to explain Roller Derby but her kids were begging for ice cream.

Upon leaving the strip mall complex I almost died. A guy was merging into traffic and didn’t think that he should yield at the sidewalk (where I was) so I was pretty much forced into open traffic to avoid being hit. Someone I managed to not veer too far into the street traffic and swerve my way around some cars.

Thanks a lot stupid Esclade. You’re not cool.

My big “ouchie” moment came when I was skating kind of fast on the side walk leading on the path. I didn’t see that the sidewalk was uneven (it seriously a tiny ramp) and I was going too fast to stop so I attempted to jump over it. I successfully cleared it, but I was still going too fast and out of control. I felt like I was doing the splits and was going head forward onto the concrete, luckily I grabbed the fence behind me and managed to pull myself to a stop.

MAN my crotch hurt. I’m not that flexible yet.

I think I’m going to take a break from skating, I need to start my off skate training. Need to work those gluts!

Anyway my friend Mia is in Korea and is apart of South Korea’s roller derby team so she posted some helpful exercises that her captain gave them in her blog.

So the bout last Saturday was lots of fun! Although my mom did ditch me. RAWR. I’ll post pics from the bout when I get home (hopefully). The after party was also pretty awesome. I found a new favorite beer (STRONGBOW) and danced and took shots. Twas a great time. AND NO HANGOVER.

That’s all for me today, need to get back to work.

Ciao!

day 6. -bad luck charm-

I finally got the information on WCR’s next round of tryouts (end of July!) and so when I got home from work yesterday evening, I strapped on my skates and went skated over to Northeastern Illinois University and skated in the tennis court for a bit. I didn’t do my best, I don’t know.

I felt like I was moving slower and losing my breath a lot quicker. I tried to do some laps and sadly I’m still at the 37 second mark for two laps. Booo. I don’t know, maybe I need someone there to keep me up. Last time I was there I had Matt, this time I was by myself and at a loss for what to practice.

I attempted doing the cross overs and still failed. I’m assuming that’s just not something that one can teach himself. Oh well.

After skating around in circles for about an hour, I went to the University’s “quad” and met my old roomie.

Who apparently is a curse and an asshole.

The moment he saw me he said, “have you fallen yet?” I told him I hadn’t. “Well I’m going to make you fall.”

About fifteen minutes later, during a conversation, I fell.

It wasn’t even like a fall, I collapsed. I was just rolling back and forth, my legs gave way under me and next thing I know is I’m on the ground.

WHAT THE FUCK SEAN.

So yes, I can officially say that I have fallen.

Ugh.

Sadly I don’t think I will be able to practice/update a lot for the next two weeks. My last semester as an undergrad is coming to a close and I have a ten page French paper due. About Medieval Education.

Kill me fucking now.

So I WAS researching for the topic, then got distracted by tumblr, but I can’t have that happen any more!

Sooo!
